18-year-old Yusuf Ulug on Sunday was grazing his sheep in Hevres village of the southeastern city of Bitlis in the morning hours when he accidentally exploded a military object he found and got seriously injured, Mezopotamya Agency reported.
Ulug, who was taken to a state hospital in the city of Bitlis after the explosion, had to be transferred to another hospital immediately due to lack of sufficient technical equipment and specialists.
But several hospitals from the region refused to accept Ulug, causing him to lose valuable time after the injury and he was finally transferred to Harran University hospital in the city of Sanliurfa.
Doctors said Ulug has been kept in intensive care for 4 days, already lost his right hand, and was still in serious condition because of the shrapnel wounds in his head and chest.
Ulug is not the first person to get injured with the implements of war.
39 people lost their lives as a result of the explosion of mine-like objects in the southeast region of Turkey between 2011 and 2021, according to a report by the Human Rights Association of Turkey.
