A Turkish police officer is caught on video slide tackling a member of parliament, pro-Kurdish Mezopotamya Agency reported on Friday.

Saliha Aydeniz of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) fell face first when a police officer slid to the ground and tripped her as she walked alongside a large group of officers in Diyarbakir.

Aydeniz and other members of the HDP, a left-leaning pro-Kurdish party, were demonstrating in support of HDP deputy Leyla Güven on the 100th day of her hunger strike.

Güven is protesting the prison conditions of Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), who has been denied visitation rights since the resumption of the PKK’s conflict with the Turkish state in 2015.

An officer is heard in the video saying his colleague accidentally fell.

“Who tripped me?” Aydeniz screamed after getting up, while the group of officers surrounded her.

“He hit you when he fell on the ground,” an officer replied in defense.

Aydeniz was taken to hospital in a wheelchair and is in good condition, Mezopotamya Agency said.

The governor of Diyarbakir officially banned the protests, Mezopotamya Agency reported. Armed police presence has been heavy around HDP party headquarters, and barriers have been erected outside the home of Güven.
